Monday, January the 20th. Joel had been planning this evening for a long time. It marked his and Lindsay’s 5.5 year anniversary, and it would also mark the start of the next part of their lives together.
Joel and I met at Amanda and Dan’s wedding, where he was DJ’ing the reception at Rockway Glen. He told me about how he was planning to propose to his girlfriend, and that he would love to have it captured with photography. After much planning and scheming, Joel had the evening set perfectly. He told Lindsay that he had planned a couple’s session as a “Christmas gift”, where they’d go down to Niagara Falls and have some nice photos taken together. Lindsay had no idea what was really planned.
We met down by the Falls, and after about 45 minutes of portraits down by the Table Rock, the Horseshoe Falls and in and around the parkway, we made our way to the Illumination Tower, where Joel had arranged to have exclusive access to one of the best views of Niagara Falls.
I got myself ready, and when Joel said our secret keyword of “Hey Bryan, can you get the Horseshoe Falls in this picture”, I knew that this was the moment. Joel got down on one knee and expressed his love for Lindsay, asking for her hand in marriage. It was a beautiful moment, and I was honoured to be a part of it and to document it for them.
After giving them a few moments of alone time (and to wipe away the tears), we continued on with our session, creating some beautiful images to celebrate their (very) recent engagement.
Here are a few of my (and their) favourite images from the evening. Surely a night to never forget. Thanks to Joel and Lindsay for allowing me to be a part of it with you, and once again, congratulations on your engagement!
